The door, with it’s generous curves and metal inlays, is a one of a kind custom door that the technicians at Green Leaf Doors can preform. The door was finished on site wit ha stain and clear finish to give a darker color to the bamboo than naturally available. We love the design! Hats off to the folks at Design Work Place. Cheers!

The material was set brick set and was the color of dark mahogany or ipe. I asked the designer what she had specified and she said it was bamboo! I did a little research on the internet as to tile providers that offer bamboo tile and there are some out there. The following is a list of bamboo tile suppliers;

  1. Sobu, a collection of mosaic bamboo tiles, comes in four patterns and three colors: gold, reddish brown, and dark brown. All tiles feature a matte finish and smooth texture.

  2. Kaguya Bamboo Subway Tile 2×4 inch

  3. Soli bamboo tile mosaic

EcoHome magazine awarded Green Goods’ bamboo door line, Green Leaf Doors, one of the “hottest” ten products presenting at the event. The honor sparked enthusiasm amongst attendees and the partners at Green Leaf Doors. One accomplished design architect attending the show proclaimed that “these bamboo doors have the most soul at the expo”.

Commitment to the environment

Along with the commitment to exceptional design, the company puts environmental considerations as a top priority when considering the components and practices in building the doors. The doors are made in the USA which allows the company to have complete oversight and control over the production of the doors.  All glues and finishes are free of harmful toxic chemicals and contribute to the LEED credit EQ 4.1, 4.2, and 4.4 Low Emitting Materials. The bamboo material contributes to LEED MR Credit 6 Rapidly Renewable Material, while the agri-fiber and recycled content wood core contribute to LEED MR Credit 4.1 / 4.2 Recycled Content Composite Woods. The company also utilizes two manufacturing facilities across the US that provide projects within 500 miles the LEED MR Credit 5.1 Regional Materials Credit.

It is insanely dense, durable and it’s HEAVY! Don’t even try to shoot a nail through it or drive a screw without pre drilling. It’s bends nails and shreds screws without proper preparation. Check out the photos of the process.

According to insiders in the industry, “Bamboo lumber is pressed from bamboo strips which already have been well treated, including boiling, drying, gluing. Bamboo lumber can be milled for the building and projects as hardwood. 

Bamboo lumber is pressed with low VOC resin and 100% renewable resources – bamboo under high pressure and high temperature.

Bamboo lumber can be pressed in horizontal grain, vertical grain and strand woven. Horizontal or vertical is most used in the interior projects and buildings. Strand woven is used for outside building, like house, wall panels. Bamboo lumber in strand woven is cold pressed process, durable and consistent quality.

Bamboo lumber is used across the world in construction and is becoming increasingly more popular for building purposes due to its versatility, beauty, sustainability, flexibility and its incredible strength.

Bamboo lumber comes in a variety of dimensions and lengths. Colors include natural and caramel.

Also attached is the new bamboo fan offered by #BigAssFans. One of the exhibits that stood out amongst the rest was a company called #Stikwood. You can find them at (you guest it … http://stikwood.com/ ) They are offering wall and ceiling wood finishes that are approximately 1/8″ by 4″ x random lengths that have a peel and stick installation system. The benefits are easy installation, conserving of natural resources and a beautiful aesthetic. Check out their reclaimed “snow fence” board at the Dwell On design show. I bet the folks at #GreenGoodsProducts will be carrying this soon! Cheers
